Who We Are

About Us

Gotra is the trusted platform for preserving multi-gotra heritage. We help families and communities across India and the diaspora document, protect, and share their ancestral legacy for generations to come.

Our Vision

One Living Heritage Network

What if your relatives live across different cities or countries?

A future where every family can discover their roots, preserve their identity, connect with relatives, share traditions, and pass knowledge to future generations.

One Platform. One Heritage Network. Millions Connected.

Who We Are

Powered by the 108 Ganesh Foundation

We are conceived to establish 108 Ganesh statues and temples depicting different images worshiped all over the world — to promote heritage in Nepal. The 108 Ganesh Foundation USA, a nonprofit organization, reaches among 10,800 Vansh communities to connect through the gotra platform.

Heritage Preservation

Research and documentation of family lineage across the subcontinent. Membership fees are equally shared between gotra research and the 108 Ganesh Foundation over a five-year mission window.

Our Mission

Connecting 1,080,000 Family Units

To connect scattered Kul / Vansh / Extended Family Groups (कुल / वंश) across the Indian subcontinent — joining and publishing the family about their puja, custom, goddess, and DNA. A connection medium to research for a functional family unit matching one or more.

Our Story

Built on a Simple Belief

Ancestral knowledge is too precious to exist only in memory or scattered notes. We created a dedicated space where families can record their gotra name, lineage, deities, puja customs, and genealogy in one secure place — and choose to share it with their community or keep it private. Today, families across India, Nepal, and the diaspora use Gotra to preserve what makes their heritage unique.

Who Is Gotra For?

Families, Elders & Community Leaders

Gotra is for families, community elders, and anyone who cares about preserving their gotra identity. Whether you are documenting your own family line, coordinating with a larger gotra association, or simply want a safe place to record rituals and customs for your children, our platform adapts to your needs with flexible profiles and privacy controls.

What We Believe

Principles That Guide Us

Preservation First

Cultural heritage should be recorded in a way that outlives paper and oral tradition. We prioritize long-term, structured documentation.

Privacy by Choice

You decide what is public, shareable by link, or private. Sensitive details — including DNA data — stay under your control.

Community & Connection

Gotra strengthens bonds within communities by making it easy to discover and connect with others who share the same roots.

Why Gotra

Scattered Vansh, One Living Thread

Roughly 1,080,000 Kul/Vansh families carry centuries of lineage rooted in the eight sages — the Saptarishis and Agastya. Gotra exists so this cultural wealth is never lost: structured profiles families can preserve, researchers can study, and communities can pass down together.

Lineage Mapping

Trace your gotra to its root sage and Vansh branch across generations. Map patrilineal descent from the eight foundational lineages in a clear, searchable profile.

Puja & Kuldevi Records

Document your kuldevi, seasonal pujas, and rites of passage with rich formatting. Capture the customs that define your Vansh before they live only in memory.

DNA & Vansh Research

Record DNA data alongside lineage to enable cross-Vansh research. Contribute to understanding how patrilineal clans connect families across regions and generations.

Exogamy Verification

Verify marriage lineage rules before unions are arranged. Confirm that prospective partners belong to different gotras — same-gotra marriage is strictly prohibited.
